AuRa-Hirn 2

 The Brain for Automated Micromobility

Funding Program:
Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection, and Environment of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, European Regional Development Fund
Duration:

Problem Statement

Cities worldwide, especially in Europe, are under tremendous pressure for transformation. Urban areas must make their transportation CO2-neutral in the medium term. New paradigms such as the 15-minute city fundamentally change the nature of mobility and how public space is allocated in cities. Currently developed autonomous cars and their conventional approaches to autonomous driving are not suitable for this future city. In the future, automated micromobility will play an increasingly significant role in addressing mobility and logistics challenges.

Implementation

The project develops the "AuRa Brain". The brain is a universal module that enables the implementation of automated driving functions on various micromobility vehicles. Ultimately, this enables autonomous driving in these unstructured traffic environments. The AuRa Brain is made possible by the paradigm of automation and autonomy for peaceful coexistence. For this purpose, vehicles are used that are similar in size/weight/speed to vulnerable road users, significantly reducing the risk of danger. The vehicle can thus navigate through unstructured traffic environments, enabling automated driving functions away from the carriageway.

Project Objective

The project AuRa-Hirn 2 aims to develop a market-ready realization of an integrated computing unit for the implementation of hardware-related control and regulation functions as a basis for the automation of various micromobility vehicles. It also involves the further development and adaptation of secure and reliable software modules for implementing automated driving functions on a suitable middleware. This includes the development of a modular software architecture for integrating various software modules, sensor systems, and actuator components, as well as the implementation of motion planning for automated evasive and overtaking maneuvers, especially for use in cleaning services.

The AuRa-Hirn 2 project is carried out in collaboration with Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.

The AuRa-Hirn 2 project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
